About us

Shannon ChildCare is a small, nurturing “home from home” nursery in Edgware, North West London with an outstanding Ofsted grade. Alyson Shannon who has a real love for babies, toddlers and children started the Nursery 10 years ago.

Our Carers are part of our family, they specialise in babies and toddlers. Our loving and caring approach enables our children to blossom. Our professional Carers are qualified in Childcare Level 2, Level 3 and Early Years Initial Teacher Training (EYITT). We have worked together as a team for years and everyone who works with us is DBS checked. Our aim is to provide parents with complete peace of mind, that their children are thoroughly looked after in a safe, secure, clean and happy environment. The children are inspired, stimulated, nurtured and above all, loved. We ensure all our little friends are happy and settled as they enjoy busy, fun-filled days learning through play and exploring new, exciting topics.

“Chloe has had the most amazing time with you. She has enjoyed every day and is always talking about the wonderful and caring staff. I could not have hoped for a better childcare provision for Chloe as I know she has been so cared for and looked after (What more could a parent ask for?)”

Keeping parents informed

We know how important it is to not miss a single thing about your child’s development and their day at Shannon ChildCare. We can’t show you every second but we can make sure that you know what your child has done during the day, what they’ve achieved and see how much they have enjoyed themselves.

We fill out a Day Sheet for you at the end of every day your child spends with us. This sheet carefully details everything they have done, from what they have eaten, who they have played with, what toys they have used, what books they have been read, if they have had a nap and any key milestones they have reached. We also document how many nappies they have used, if they have been successful with potty training, and anything we think you need to know or would like to know. This Day Sheet lays the foundations for our “Development File” which we have on each child. This file monitors and plans their learning.

Additionally, we take many photographs and videos of your children, which we share with you regularly. Of course, these photographs are not used elsewhere unless we expressly have permission from the parents.

“The manager/provider is an inspirational leader. She is an excellent example to other staff and monitors their practice so that they constantly improve their already exemplary practice.”

“The quality of teaching and learning is of a high standard and enables
children to remain motivated”

About Alyson Shannon

about_alysonAlyson has always had a real love and an affinity for children. She was inspired to set up her own child minding facility in Edgware after forming a nursery in Buckinghamshire for a business colleague. Coupled with her passion for her own young son Luke, Shannon ChildCare was born.

Alyson says that learning about child development is one of her passions. In July 2011 she attained a first class BA (Hons) degree in Early Years Childhood Studies and following this, in April 2012 she achieved Early Years Professional Status (EYPS). Alyson now works as a Link Tutor, Mentor and on The Advisory Board with Middlesex University, this keeps her well informed of all new childcare ideas and legislation.

In Alyson’s own words “My colleagues have a ‘sweetness of soul’ and our little friends flourish with the positive, enabling environment we provide. I personally feel creating a ‘home from home’ atmosphere is the best setting for babies and toddlers to develop. Providing security and tender loving care, enables our babies to develop and learn from a stable and nurturing environment.”

Alyson constantly strives to ensure that Shannon ChildCare is ahead of other nurseries and childminders; we keep colleagues thoroughly up to date by providing in-house training to help them develop their knowledge further. Shannon ChildCare carers are encouraged to attend courses run by Barnet who have a comprehensive range aimed at childcare provisions. As well as running Shannon ChildCare, Alyson also works with Barnet Early Years Team and provides free of charge workshops for her parents and carers in useful and interesting subjects:

  • Makaton
  • Tummy Time and Physical Development
  • Speech and Language
  • Fussy Eating
  • Behaviour Management
  • General First Aid

We respect and nurture all faiths and religions as we have many children from different cultures at our nursery.
